Practical Pruning through the year at New Hopetoun Gardens.

A reminder of which plants to prune at the right time throughout the year.

Lesley always says that you won’t kill a plant by pruning at the wrong time of year but you may lose a season’s flowers.

Dougal says that if a plant isn’t behaving how you want it to then there is nothing lost if you give it a hard cutting back and it dies... giving you an opportunity to replant with a better plant for that place in your garden!

The starting point in any pruning project is to remember the ‘D’s: you are always going to remove Dead, Diseased, Damaged & Duplicating wood.
