Art in the Garden 2026 & Children’s Trail

Our annual Art in the Garden Event is back! (every day from 1st July to 31st August 10am-5pm)

Our annual FREE event ‘Art in the Garden’ returns for its 13th season to showcase garden art created predominantly by local artists. Take a stroll around our many themed gardens to discover interesting, fun and thought provoking installations. Get the kids involved too by following the trail to find creatures hiding among the pieces🫣

Afterwards, don’t forget to vote for your favourite in ‘The People’s Vote’ for a chance to win gift vouchers. We look forward to seeing you soon.

There's no doubt we are passionate about gardens here, but we also share a great love for art. So, what better way to celebrate the talents of local artists than our annual Art in the Garden event.

Every year in July/August we invite local Scottish Artists to exhibit some of their best outdoor work. We then pick out the nicest spots in our themed gardens to show them off at their best.

We've been running 'Art in the Garden' for several years now and it has proved a great hit with our visitors. We also hold a competition where the public are encouraged to vote for their favourite pieces and voters for the most popular installation are entered into a prize draw.

More details of this year's event to follow shortly, but in the meantime here's a few snaps from events past to give you a flavour of what to expect - see you soon!

4 RATHO BYRES FORGE - Shona Johnson
Husband and wife team Shona Johnson and Pete Hill use traditional metal work forging techniques mixed with contemporary design to create beautiful pieces of art. Some of their work has been commissioned for public places – a bench in the Palm House of Edinburgh Royal Botanical Gardens & the south porch gate at St Michaels Church in Linlithgow are two examples. They have won The People’s Vote previously, most notably in 2015 with a ‘Kaleidoscope’ of butterflies in the woodland riverbed and ‘Club Med’ in 2019 reflecting on the ongoing refugee crisis.
