“Sharing Successes”
Dougal and all at New Hopetoun Gardens,
As a newcomer to this magic way of communicating, I found myself browsing through your super website and was inspired by you invitation to share gardening successes with you.
For me this summer it was my Lily Cardiocrinum giganteum, reaching the dizzy heights of 8ft 3ins ( I’m only just 5ft ). It has been the highlight of my gardening year.
I planted the bulb, 2 years ago, a gift from a friend, whose original bulb came from New Hopetoun Gardens.
It has been an amazing experience watching this magnificent plant shooting out of the ground then producing fantastic perfumed trumpets. I know I’m not the first but it was a first for me.
My giant Lily is over now, leaving only 2 bulblets, which I know take a few years to flower – the seeds, I believe take 7 years to reach flowering size – the patience of gardeners!
I love visiting New Hopetoun Gardens at all times of the year and for me and my gardening friends we always find something new to see and inspire us. The fact too, that you can see how plants mature in your various garden settings, is really helpful when choosing new plants and knowing which will survive in our Scottish climate.
Thank you for the opportunity to share. Looking forward to visiting New Hopetoun Gardens again very soon.
All good wishes, Rhoda Robertson ( gardening granny )
