Cut back perennials

When the weaher turns drier, the leaves of pulmonarias and hardy geraniums often become tatty and infected with powdery mildew. Cut away all infected leaves to ground level and feed with growmore or fish, blood and bone to encourage a new flush of growth. Plants that can be hard pruned back at this time of year and would benefit from it would be Doronicum, Geum, Lady’s Mantle and oriental poppies, some of these producing a second flush of flowers.
