DIANA AND ACTAEON FOUND ALIVE (just)
at New Hopetoun Gardens

For those of you who are missing Diane and Actaeon at the National Gallery in Edinburgh, you might find consolation in paying us a visit this winter and discovering them in our Winter Woodland Walk!

Whilst Diane is bathing, Actaeon the Hunter comes across her, the Goddess of Hunting, Unmarried Mothers and the Moon.  Roman mythology remembers her as a lady with a fierce temper and contemptuous of men, who demanded, for instance, that her serving nymphs remained unmarried.

True to character she punished Actaeon for daring to spy on her by turning him into a stag.  Immediately his own hounds chase him and tear him to bits!
